About Medical Weight Loss

What is medical weight loss?

Medical weight loss is a clinically supervised approach to weight management that goes beyond diet and exercise advice. It may include eligible medications, lab monitoring, metabolic assessment, and personalized lifestyle guidance. A licensed clinician oversees your care, adjusts your treatment as needed, and integrates your weight goals with your overall health picture. Learn more on the services page.

How is medical weight loss different from a diet program?

Commercial diet programs focus primarily on calories or food rules. Medical weight loss is individualized, clinically supervised care that accounts for your health history, lab values, medications, and metabolic factors. It may include FDA-approved medications, and your clinician monitors your progress and safety throughout — rather than following a one-size-fits-all protocol.

Am I a candidate for medical weight loss?

Most adults with a BMI of 30 or above, or a BMI of 27 or above with a weight-related health condition such as hypertension, prediabetes, or high cholesterol, may be candidates for medical weight loss. Our provider reviews your full history at your first visit to determine the safest and most effective approach for your specific situation.

What results can I realistically expect?

Results vary based on starting point, adherence, medications used, and individual physiology. Clinical trials of anti-obesity medications show average weight loss of 15 to 20 percent of body weight for some patients over 12 to 18 months. Even modest weight loss of 5 to 10 percent can produce meaningful improvements in blood pressure, blood sugar, and cholesterol levels.

Clinical Protocols

Do you provide anti-obesity medications?

Yes. When clinically appropriate, Brick Road Health can provide FDA-approved anti-obesity medications and other FDA-approved anti-obesity medications. Our provider evaluates your health history, current conditions, and goals before recommending any medication, and monitors your response throughout treatment. See the anti-obesity medications page for more detail.

How are anti-obesity medications administered?

anti-obesity medications can be taken as a once-weekly injection or a daily oral tablet. Injectable versions are administered with a small prefilled pen under the skin, usually in the abdomen, thigh, or upper arm. Some anti-obesity medications are also available in oral form, which must be taken on an empty stomach with a small amount of water. Your provider will discuss which option is most appropriate for you based on your health history and treatment goals.

What are the side effects of weight loss medications?

The most common side effects of anti-obesity medications are gastrointestinal — nausea, constipation, and reduced appetite — particularly during dose escalation. These often improve over time. Serious side effects are uncommon but exist; our provider reviews contraindications and your full health history before initiating treatment to minimize risk and ensure the medication is appropriate for you.

Do you offer compounded medications?

Brick Road Health does not offer compounded medications. Our practice focuses on providing FDA-approved medications when clinically appropriate to ensure patients receive treatments that have been thoroughly evaluated for safety, quality, and effectiveness. In recent years, regulatory guidance around compounded versions of anti-obesity medications has become more restrictive as supply of the FDA-approved medications has improved. Because compounded versions are not FDA-approved and can vary in formulation and quality, Brick Road Health prioritizes evidence-based care using medications that meet established regulatory standards.

Treatment & Process

What happens at my first appointment?

Your first appointment is a thorough intake consultation with our provider. They will review your health history, current medications, previous weight loss attempts, relevant labs, and your goals. Together you will discuss treatment options — including whether medication is appropriate — and our provider will outline a personalized plan before you leave the visit. Schedule your first appointment here.

How often do I have follow-up visits?

Follow-up visit frequency depends on your treatment plan and progress. Patients starting a new medication typically check in more frequently early on — often monthly — to assess tolerability, adjust dosing, and review labs. As your care stabilizes, visits may extend to every four to six weeks. Our provider is also reachable between visits for clinical questions.

Do you order labs?

Yes. Lab review is a standard part of care at Brick Road Health. Our provider orders or reviews baseline labs including HbA1c, a lipid panel, comprehensive metabolic panel, and other markers relevant to your health and medications. Follow-up labs are ordered periodically to monitor safety, track metabolic changes, and guide any adjustments to your treatment plan.

Will I need blood work before being recommended medication?

Yes. Blood work is required before medication is recommended. This may include a CBC, CMP, TSH, lipid panel, hemoglobin A1c, and a pregnancy test if applicable. Recent labs from another provider may be sent for review.

Do I need a recent physical exam?

A physical exam within the past year is recommended as part of safe, comprehensive care. If you have already completed one with another provider, you are welcome to send those records for review.

Are medications included in the visit cost?

No. Care plan costs are separate and are not included in the visit fee. Costs vary depending on your insurance coverage and treatment.

Do you offer an enhanced support membership?

Yes. Brick Road Health offers an enhanced support membership for patients seeking a more hands-on, personalized care experience, with added guidance and continuity throughout treatment.

How do I get started?

You can book an appointment, complete the required intake forms, and meet by telehealth to discuss your goals and personalized treatment options. Schedule your first appointment here.

How long does treatment typically last?

Medical weight management is typically an ongoing process rather than a fixed-length program. Many patients remain in active care for one to two years or longer. Obesity is a chronic condition, and sustainable results often require sustained treatment and monitoring. Our provider works with you to set realistic milestones and adjusts the plan as your needs change over time.

Cost & Insurance

Do you accept insurance?

Insurance coverage is not yet active. Brick Road Health plans to begin accepting insurance in late summer to early fall 2026. In the meantime, self-pay options are available. We can also provide documentation (such as a superbill) that you may submit to your insurance company for potential reimbursement. Visit our pricing page for full details on our program options and fees.

What are your membership rates?

Membership pricing is currently: Standard Membership: $149 per month • Concierge Membership: $249 per month. Both plans can be canceled at any time. Care plan costs are separate and vary depending on your insurance coverage and treatment.

How much does treatment cost?

Brick Road Health offers transparent, subscription-based pricing. Standard Membership is $149/month, and Concierge Membership is $249/month. Both can be canceled at any time. Visit the pricing page for current rates. Care plan costs are separate and vary depending on the treatment recommended and any insurance or manufacturer savings programs that may apply. Our provider reviews your options during the consultation.

Do you assist with prior authorizations?

Yes. We assist with submitting prior authorizations to your insurance company when applicable.

Do you help with insurance appeals if a medication is denied?

Yes. We can assist with the appeals process if your medication is denied, though approval is not guaranteed.

What is your cancellation policy?

Appointments must be canceled or rescheduled at least 24 hours before the scheduled visit to avoid a charge. Appointments canceled within 24 hours, or missed without notice (no-show), will be charged the full cost of the scheduled visit. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation in respecting scheduled appointment times so we can offer timely care to all patients.

Can I cancel my membership?

Yes, you can cancel at any time by emailing us at info@brickroadhealth.com. There are no cancellation fees or long-term commitments.

Can I use my HSA/FSA?

In most cases, yes. Medical consultations and applicable medications are generally eligible HSA and FSA expenses. Brick Road Health provides detailed receipts that include all necessary information for reimbursement submissions. We recommend confirming eligibility with your HSA or FSA administrator, as plan rules can vary. Most patients find their visit fees qualify without issue.

What is included in the program fee?

Brick Road Health's visit fees include your consultation time with our provider, clinical review of your labs and history, care plan management services, and follow-up care coordination. Lab draw fees are separate and billed through the lab. Treatment costs are billed separately. See the services page for a full breakdown of what each visit includes.
